Our Therapeutic Services

Sandstone's counselors work with individuals, teens (ages 10 and up), and families across Summit and Stark counties. We offer in-person sessions at our Uniontown office and telehealth for clients throughout Ohio.

Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety and depression look different for everyone. For some it's a constant low-level dread; for others it comes in waves. Either way, it doesn't have to be permanent.

Our counselors use evidence-based approaches — including CBT, ACT, and person-centered therapy — to help you understand what's driving your symptoms and build practical tools for managing them. Most clients start to see progress within the first few sessions, even when things have felt stuck for a long time.

Grief & Loss

Grief is one of the most disorienting experiences a person can go through — and it rarely looks the way we expect. You might feel numb, angry, relieved, or all three at once. There's no timeline and no right way to do it.

Our counselors offer a steady, non-judgmental space to process whatever you're carrying. Whether you've lost a loved one, a marriage, a job, or a sense of who you were, we can help you find your footing again.

LGBTQ+

Finding a therapist who is genuinely affirming — not just tolerant — matters. At Sandstone, LGBTQ+ clients and their families are fully welcomed. Our counselors provide identity-safe care for individuals navigating sexuality, gender identity, coming out, family relationships, and the unique stressors that come with being part of the LGBTQ+ community.

We also work with family members and loved ones who want to be more supportive and understanding.

Teen & Adolescent

We work with young people ages 10 and up. Adolescence comes with real pressures — academic stress, social anxiety, family changes, identity questions, and more. The goal isn't to tell young people how to feel. It's to give them a space to figure things out, and some tools to help.

Our counselors have experience working with teens dealing with anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, grief, trauma, and self-esteem issues. We also coordinate with parents to ensure the therapy is supporting the whole family.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured therapy that helps people process and heal from traumatic memories without having to relive them in detail. It uses guided bilateral stimulation — typically eye movements — to reduce the emotional intensity of difficult memories over time.

EMDR is endorsed by the American Psychological Association and the World Health Organization for PTSD and trauma. Sandstone's clinicians are trained in EMDR and use it with clients experiencing trauma, grief, anxiety, and phobias.

If you're curious whether EMDR might be right for you, reach out — we're happy to walk you through what a session looks like.

We're conveniently located for clients coming from Green, Akron, North Canton, and the surrounding area.

Our office is located at 3500 Massillon Rd., Suite 400 in Uniontown, OH — in the Surgere building near the Human Bean.

Telehealth sessions are available for established clients. An in-person intake session may be required by some insurance plans.

Trauma & PTSD

Trauma has a way of staying in the body long after the event has passed. Hypervigilance, nightmares, emotional numbness, sudden triggers — these aren't signs of weakness. They're signs that your nervous system is still trying to protect you.

Our counselors are trained in trauma-informed approaches, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), one of the most effective evidence-based treatments available for PTSD. We'll work at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you.

Emotional Issues

All of us experience times in our lives where we need someone to listen and help us process and work through difficult times. Our counselors are here to offer the emotional support you need to process, grow, and establish healthy relationships to live a healthier life.

Insurance and Payment Options

Our counselors are currently listed as providers for many local and commonly used health insurance agencies. However, your coverage will depend on your individual plan. If you are unsure if your insurance will cover services at Sandstone, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask if Sandstone Counseling is listed as a provider.

Self-pay Options

We do offer payment options for those with insurance plans which our counselors are not part of (out-of network) and those who may choose to not use their insurance, or those that may not have coverage for mental health services (self-pay).
